First PResbyterian Church | Roof and Attic Assesment

MJBA was retained by First Presbyterian Church in 2014 to assess the cause for stains that had been appearing at ceiling tiles in the sanctuary. The attic space above the ceiling was investigated. The initial thought was that conditions for condensation were causing moisture to accumulate in the attic space and finding its way through the attic insulation and to the ceiling finish. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the existing roof attic vents were not equipped with baffles, which allowed wind-driven snow to pass through the vents, creating snow accumulation in the attic at various locations. The snow would eventually melt and seep through the insulation and to the roof ceiling panels. MJBA assisted in securing a local roofing contractor to replace the roof vents.
