NDSCS | Nordgaard Hall

The 60 year old NDSCS Nordgaard Hall was experiencing sewer odors, which became more frequent and stronger over time.

Investigation revealed that the building’s original cast iron vent stacks were brittle and had cracked with age, a common problem found in older buildings. Consulting with Obernel Engineering (ONE), a plan was developed to replace the cast iron at all 10 floors (6 bathroom groups and 1 custodial room per floor).

Consideration was given to minimize wall removal and reconstruction in a manner that would minimally impact walls, floors, and ceilings in order to control cost and time as well, since the work needed to be completed and finished before the return of students the following fall.
