VCSU – Vangstad Hall Fire Escape

valley-city-fire-escape-design-data

Located at Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota, Vangstad Hall is one of the oldest structures on campus. It continues to serve as an auditorium hosting large events in a beautiful and historic setting. As with many older structures Vangstad Hall was constructed during a period of time when attention to Life Safety Codes and practices was minimal. Over the years several fire escape structures were constructed which had deteriorated to an unsafe condition.

New fire escapes were designed to provide sturdier construction and railing protection and give users a better sense of safety when descending them.

They were also designed to incorporate historic elements to relate to the building and to appear more like a stair rather than like a conventional fire escape.
