West Fargo Community High School/Leidel Education Center
The Leidel Education Center, completed in June 2000, replaced the adjacent 70-year old school building. It provides contemporary office space for the District Administration Offices, educational classroom space for the Community High School (alternative school), and a central receiving garage. The two primary uses are separated by a clerestory-lit central corridor. Each entrance not only meets egress requirements but also directs building users—the north entrance for the public and school administration; the south for the high school students and faculty. Adjacent to each entrance is a parking lot. The building’s exterior uses the same materials but alternates them reflecting the different internal functions. Furthermore spaces within the building are arranged in a manner to permit their use after hours of operation with minimal threat to its overall security. Examples include the board room and the demonstration cooking/living classroom. Other classrooms are used for science, social studies, math, English, and any other core curriculum requirements.
