Located near Kennedy, Minnesota the Christiansen House consists of a remodeled turn-of-the-century farmhouse for a family of seven. The existing farmhouse was owned by the family and passed down through several generations. The house, however, was too small to accommodate the large family.
Rather than add on to the existing structure the owner purchased an abandoned farmhouse located a few miles away, moved it and placed it onto a new foundation adjacent to the existing farmhouse. A new connecting link was constructed to tie the two story structures together. The existing farmhouse contained the living room with the children’s bedrooms above, the connecting link served as the new entrance and kitchen at the first floor and a bridge connecting the second floor of the two structures. The annex serves as a family room at the first floor and a master bedroom at the second floor.
