In response to the growing popularity of apartment style dormitory living, the University added this 27,000 sf, 21-unit addition to an existing 12-unit facility.

The center section of this building addition is referred to as ‘The Commons’ which houses the main building entrance, lobby, reception, lounge, conference room, and public restrooms as well as new offices for the campus housing director. The building also contains four total laundry rooms with 2 washers and dryer units each, 4 accessible units, and is protected with a student security phone and card access system.

The project included constructing a brick veneer on the exterior of the Westside Apartments (currently vinyl siding) and reshingling the roof to make its appearance consistent with the new building and other mall buildings. Water, sanitary sewer, and electrical services with sufficient capacity for the proposed building are available at the site. Utility stubs exist at Westside Apartments, constructed in anticipation of another residential building in the location. The project has been a successful design-build format which is teamed with Community Contractors of Grand Forks, ND.
