Carnegie Library Renovation
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Carnegie Library renovation is being sponsored by a group of private citizens in Thief River Falls, Funding called for the project to take place in two phases.
Phase one eliminated the moisture infiltration in its lower level. Foundations were excavated to the footings, draintile and waterproofing installed. The interior work included the removal of the decaying concrete floor slab, the installation of interior draintile and a new reinforced concrete slab, which included all underslab plumbing and electrical conduit to meet the design requirements of Phase two.
Phase two includes a new elevator/stair addition on the east side of the building making the split level building completely accessible; new mechanical and electrical systems, restoration of wood cornices, windows, a glass skylight and coved plaster walls/ceilings. The library will be used by the community to provide much needed office space, computer technology training space, and private and community gatherings.
