On the grounds of the Anne Carlsen Center for Children and clustered in a small intimate group are three new buildings, each one has a unique design for an 8-bed transitional home for mentally and physically challenged school age children. The cottages are sited near the James River and away from the main campus building.

“Architectural firm MJBA coordinated the planning activities with various working groups of Center Staff gaining a great deal of knowledge and understanding to the special needs of children with disabilities in both a school setting and in their living environment.”
